The woodshop at the Innovation Studio provides students access to a SawStop professional table saw. The saw features a stop mechanism that automatically brakes the spinning blade when it comes in contact with a body part (or something that is conductive). This video shows how the safety mechanism works.
The saw is powered by a 1.75 hp motor and features a 36″ rail for supporting longer work-pieces. It also comes with a blade guard that offers a dust-collection port which can be attached to a vacuum cleaner through the overarm dust-collection system. In addition to the rail, the table saw is also fitted with an outfeed table to support the cut wood. Detailed specifications of the table saw can be found here.
